Whilst
studying photography at sixth form, Bill Cunningham was one of the street
photographers that inspired me as he knows exactly what he is looking for and
loves what he does. On Monday we were lucky enough to watch a documentary about
Cunningham and his passion. Bill devotes his time to photography and walks
around the streets of New York waiting for anything that catches his attention,
he then captures what he feels is unique and cool. What is more inspiring about
Bill is that he refuses any payment for his work and has a tiny studio where he
keeps his photos, whether they are successful or unsuccessful. One of Bill’s
biggest fans is Anna Wintour and she will always make time for his photographs
when passing in the street. From watching the documentary it made me realise
that if you are passionate about something, continue to get experience whether
paid or unpaid and build up your portfolio, if you don't like some of your work someone else will. I have already started doing this
with work placements such as ASOS and Burberry, however I need to get as much
experience as possible.
